Skip Severt, DVM

Dr. Skip is originally from Monroe, NC and grew up on his family’s turkey farm. He attended North Carolina State University receiving his undergraduate degree in Poultry Science in 2002 and then his veterinary degree in 2006. During college and veterinary school, Dr. Skip worked as a veterinary assistant for a large animal practice outside of Raleigh, NC. After graduation, Dr. Skip spent a year as an associate in large animal practice in Cornelius, NC and then moved back home to start his own ambulatory large animal practice. Three years later, the practice was expanding and Brown Creek Equine Hospital was built. Dr. Skip enjoys all aspects of being a large animal veterinarian, but has particular interest in lameness and surgery. He is also intrigued in the business management of veterinary medicine.

When not on duty, you may find him fly fishing or off-shore fishing, working on carpentry in his shop, or contemplating the next project he wants to start. Dr. Skip is married to Dr. Marsha and they have a son named Trent.

Marsha Severt, DVM, CVA, CEVMMP

Dr. Marsha is from Charlotte, NC and grew up on one of the last historic pieces of land in Charlotte. She attended North Carolina State University receiving her undergraduate degrees in Animal Science and Microbiology in 2005 and then her veterinary degree in 2009. Dr. Marsha also worked as a veterinary assistant at the same practice as Dr. Skip during veterinary school, which is where they first met. During college, Dr. Marsha spent a semester living and working on a Thoroughbred racehorse farm in Lexington, KY. After graduating from veterinary school, Dr. Marsha spent a year at Texas A&M University as a large animal intern. There she gained further experience in large animal medicine and surgery. Following her internship, Dr. Marsha returned home to join Brown Creek Equine Hospital. She enjoys all aspects of private practice, but has a particular interest in sport horse medicine, integrative therapies such as acupuncture and spinal manipulation (chiropractic), and ophthalmology. Dr. Marsha has received certification in equine acupuncture from the Chi Institute and certification in spinal manipulation from the Integrative Veterinary Medical Institute.

When not working on her client’s horses, you can find Dr. Marsha spending time with her son Trent, riding her own horses, or traveling. She also enjoys spending time with her happy Vizsla named Reesie! Dr. Marsha is married to Dr. Skip and they live in Monroe, NC with their son, Trent.
